DESCRIPTION:Join Bert Alm for a limited participant bird walk at Viera (Ritch Grissom Memorial) Wetlands. \nPlease follow our new protocols due to the Covid Pandemic.\n• All participants must register on Meetup.\n• Registration is limited for each Field Trip based on number of Leaders available.\n• All participants must check in with the Field Trip Leader and sign the Liability Waiver.\n• Masks are REQUIRED for all attendees and attendees should try to maintain social distancing guidelines\n• Equipment will not be shared by Field Trip Leaders. Family groups and social pods may share equipment amongst their group.\n• Carpooling is only allowed for family groups and social pods. No field trips will be conducted that require carpooling at this time.\n• Food will not be provided at events nor will we gather after events at restaurants\, picnics etc.\, except for family groups and social pods.\n• When two or more Field Trip leaders are available\, we will break up into groups of 10 or less and go on different routes. When passing other groups try to maintain social distancing.\n• If you have any questions or concerns\, please contact the Field Trip Leader. \nLocated between the Moccasin Island Tract of the River Lakes Conservation Area and the Brevard Zoo\, Viera Wetlands encompasses 200 acres divided into four cells with a central lake and observation tower. \nViera Wetlands is a popular destination for birders\, photographers and eco-tourists. More than 200\,000 people come to the wetlands each year. The berms at Viera Wetlands are accessible on foot or by bicycle\, and frequently open to automobiles; however\, they currently prohibit vehicles. \nWe will be looking for waterfowl and other resident birds. This site has 258 species reported in eBird overall with over 40 species so far this month of May. \nWe will meet at 8:30 am at the parking area past the water treatment facility (3658 Charlie Corbeil Way\, Viera). \nRecommend you wear comfortable closed-toe shoes\, long pants\, long sleeve shirt and a hat and bring water and bug spray. SUMMARY:North Shore Birding Festival\, December 3-7\, 2020 (Mount Dora)
DESCRIPTION:At the North Shore Birding Festival\, December 3-7\, 2020\, expert-led field trips explore the St. Johns River Water Management District’s 20\,000-acre Lake Apopka North Shore. Trips based out of the McDonald Canal\, CR 448A\, Mount Dora have driving access into areas otherwise accessible only by bicycle or on foot. This area is now Florida’s top eBird hotspot. \nThis festival is for all levels of birders and nature photographers and includes a Sunday afternoon beginning birding trip at Wekiwa Springs State Park suitable for children accompanied by an adult.  \nTrips cost $10 to $70\, with no additional festival registration fee. College students register at half price and there are college student travel scholarships. Proceeds go to Orange Audubon Society’s fund to benefit a nature and environmental education center or related educational programs.
