Wild ABOUT Florida

This new adult series is designed to introduce residents who have recently relocated to Florida and Floridians who want to know more about state wildlife to the ins and outs of living with the diversity of wildlife in Florida. Learn to identify wildlife, how agencies manage for wildlife, where to view wildlife and how to deal with nuisance wildlife at home. This is a four-class series and includes lots of helpful reference materials.

Each session runs 3.5 Hours.
July 11th – Orientation to Florida natural areas, wildlife agencies and where to view wildlife. Includes information on various locations state wide and references for figuring out when and where to view some of Florida’s unique wildlife. Instruction on wildlife in the wrong places and how homeowners can limit negative interactions with wildlife.
July 18th – Florida’s geomorphology and formation. How plant communities of Florida became established and how to use that to your advantage in home landscapes. Include slow paced walk of nearly 1 mile.
July 25th – Scaly things and Florida’s charismatic megafauna. This indoor class will introduce the large variety of scaled species in Florida and how to interact with each in a responsible and safe manner. Includes information on how many reptile species can be credited with maintaining a high diversity of wildlife species in arid areas. Outdoor opportunity to view life inside a gopher tortoise burrow.
August 1st – An in depth look at how fire is essential to Florida’s plant and animal species. Enjoy a detailed discussion on home fire is used and controlled and the benefit for maintaining habitat over other management tools. Graduation!
