Caloosahatchee Regional Park

Offering pine flatwoods, scrub and bottomland hardwood forest along the Caloosahatchee River, the diversity of habitats in this park guarantees an impressive species list. Walk the trails on the south side of CR 78 (River Rd.), passing through dense hardwoods to the river overlooks and canoe launch (look for swallows). Put in a canoe or kayak here and paddle slowly along the shore or cross the river (carefully!) and visit Hickey’s Creek Mitigation Park on the south side of the river. Connecting trails to the west from the overlooks will bring you to an impressive stand of flatwoods, which are good for Red-shouldered Hawks and Barred Owls. Wild Turkey and Swallow-tailed Kites can be found from the trails on the north side of the road, but watch for mountain bikes and horses in that section of the park.
