Geneva Wilderness Area

This site provides a pleasant hiking and birding experience on over a mile of multi-use trails that will take you through hardwoods, oak scrub, sand pine scrub and flatwoods. Watch and listen for Eastern Towhee scratching in the leaf litter, and mixed flocks of kinglets and warblers in the oaks in fall, winter and spring. Seasonal ponds have Sandhill Crane, Wood Storks, plus Wilson’s Snipe, Lesser Yellowlegs, Wood Ducks and Hooded Mergansers. Gray Fox and Wild Turkey are sometimes spotted. Be sure to pick up a trail map at the entrance kiosk and come prepared. The onsite Ed Yarborough Nature Center has exhibits and educational programs for groups; call for details and reservations. Primitive camping is allowed. A spur trail on the south side of the property leads to the Little Big Econ State Forest’s Demetree Tract and then south on the multi-use Flagler Trail to the Econlockhatchee River footbridge (part of the Florida National Scenic Trail).
