Operated by the Ridge Audubon Society, the Babson Park Nature Center is a great educational resource for birding, bird conservation and upland conservation. The site lies on the Lake Wales Ridge, an elevated backbone that runs down the middle of central Florida, which supports some of the most unique and threatened uplands in Florida. Visit the museum (call ahead) to learn more about Florida’s endangered uplands and the species that live there. Walk the short nature trail to see a sandhill ecosystem up close, while listening and watching for its birds like Northern Bobwhite, Loggerhead Shrike, Eastern Towhee, White-eyed Vireo, Pine Warbler, Common Ground-Dove and Common Nighthawk.
