Delightful birding in an urban oasis awaits you on 10 miles of mostly shaded, paved loop trails, shell paths and interconnecting bike trails. As you wander through cabbage palm and hardwood hammocks, look for House Wren, Ruby-crowned Kinglet, Tree Swallow, American Goldfinch and American Robin in winter. Yellow-throated, Yellow-rumped and Black-and-white Warblers also spend the winter here. Barred Owl, Bald Eagle, Cooper’s Hawk and Wood Stork may be found year-round. Woodpecker species include Downy, Hairy, Pileated and Yellow-bellied Sapsucker (winter). Look for Swallow-tailed Kites soaring overhead in spring/summer. Take the short paved trail south along the Intracoastal Waterway (ICW) to Waterfront Park for Osprey, ducks such as Hooded Merganser and waterbirds like Little Blue Heron and Anhinga. Live oaks along the ICW have resident songbirds and seasonal migrants like Gray Catbird and Scarlet Tanager. A canoe launch near the parking area is available for exploring the St. Joe Canal and ICW, when water levels permit.
